Has parenthood left you with little energy, time or motivation to read, but you still crave new information? If you haven’t gotten into the podcast craze yet, it’s time to jump in!
Podcasts are perfect for busy parents. Kid falls asleep in the car? Podcast! Making dinner or folding laundry? Podcast! Walking the dog around the block? Podcast! You get my point.
The sheer number of podcast options out there now is staggering. To save you some time, here are five fantastic podcasts about parenting. Being a parent is a JOB, so let’s treat it like that and continue to educate ourselves.
Unruffled
Janet Lansbury answers listeners’ questions in short 15-20 minutes episodes. In this sense, the organization is similar to her book, No Bad Kids. Although the advice is specific, her ideas can be easily applied to other situations.
A good episode to start with: “When Your Kids Won’t Give You a Break”
The Wonder of Parenting
Michael Gurian (author, philosopher and counselor) and Tim Wright (pastor) discuss relevant topics for today’s parents in relation to brain science. They often point to the differences in boys and girls because of how their brains function and are developing. Fascinating and surprisingly easy to understand (even for a non-science person).
A good episode to start with: “What Girls are Made Of” and/or “What Boys are Made Of”
Mom Brain
Hilaria Baldwin and Daphne Oz, both moms, interview guests about a variety of parenthood and current topics. This podcast has a very casual, unscripted feel, like you’re a fly on the wall for a conversation among a group of friends.
A good episode to start with: “Class is in Session with Dr. David Anderson”
The Longest Shortest Time
The original host, Hillary Frank, a mom and author, introduced listeners to a variety of topics related to parenthood, relationships, families and kids. The current host, Andrea Silenzi, is single but wants to have a child, so the more recent episodes may relate to her stage of life. Unfortunately, the podcast has come to an end, but all episodes are still available.
A good episode to start with: “Real Teens, REAL Babies”
Precious Little Sleep
This podcast started out as a blog and is now a book and a podcast. If baby or kid sleep is of interest to you, this podcast may be helpful. Alexis Dubief started helping parents as a sleep-deprived parent herself.
A good episode to start with: “When Baby Wakes Up Too Early”
