5 Things You Likely Didn't Know About Kindermusik
It was at a Mother Baby Hour that I first learned about Kindermusik. The founder of Musical Pathways, Miss Betsy, gave our group a demo of a class. It was a lot of fun, but I didn’t sign up. It was a full year later that I registered for classes with my daughter after hearing glowing reviews of Musical Pathways from a few mom friends.
Here are five things about Kindermusik that I wish I would’ve known earlier as a parent because it likely would’ve led me to register my child sooner.
1. You will become a better parent or caregiver through your experience with Musical Pathways. Most adults don’t start Kindermusik class thinking it will benefit them. How wrong they are! Musical Pathways offers a community of caring, non-judgemental, friendly families. Many adults and child friendships have formed because of our classes. Our teachers also provide the reasons and science behind the activities in class and offer parenting advice and tips to make your parenting journey a little smoother.
2. Kindermusik classes are age-appropriate; they grow with your child! In the Foundations Level class, we include infant massage and a meet and greet dance. Once your child is two years old and in the Level 2 class, we begin practicing the skill of listening and playing more instruments. This continues until your first grader is in the Young Child class; these elementary-aged students write their own music and play the glockenspiel, the dulcimer and the recorder!
3. Kindermusik is an international organization. The curriculum is research-based and evolves as new information on child development and brain research emerges. Classes are offered all over the world, from the United States to Australia to the Philippines.
4. Our Kindermusik teachers are licensed educators. After passing a vocal test and completing online instruction through Kindermusik International, a teacher in training teaches four practice classes. She/he receives feedback from a mentor through KI and from the studio where she/he will teach.
5. Although we are definitely a music class, Kindermusik classes stimulate all areas of the brain. They promote learning in these six areas of development: musical, cognitive, physical, emotional, literacy, and mathematics. Plus, there is so much fun, joy and love in a Kindermusik classroom!
